DATE: AUGUST 5, 2010
TO: ALL IDAHO VEHICLE AND VESSEL DEALERS
FROM: AMY SMITH
VEHICLE SERVICES MANAGER
SUBJECT: TITLE WORKSHOPS
In just a few weeks, you have an opportunity to attend a vehicle/vessel title workshop presented by titling experts from the Idaho Transportation Department and sales tax experts from the State Tax Commission. This series of workshops, held every two years, is your chance to learn the basics of titling or to learn of recent law, rule, and policy changes affecting vehicle and vessel titling, and to have your questions answered. If you have a used vehicle dealer’s license, attendance at this workshop by an owner or other individual approved by the department will satisfy the continuing education requirement for your next license renewal.
There are two types of workshops that you may attend: a title basics workshop and a title update workshop. The basics workshop is a full day course designed for those who have never attended a titles workshop or would like an excellent refresher of the fundamentals. It will teach the essentials of titling, including the who’s, what’s, when’s and where’s of titling, title document requirements for typical transactions, how to prepare title forms, sales tax requirements for vehicle sales, the most common reasons for title rejections and how to avoid them, how to identify brands on titles, odometer disclosure requirements, and more. Personnel from local financial agencies will also be attending this workshop.
The title update workshop is a half-day workshop for those experienced in vehicle titling, and is designed specifically for dealers. It will focus on the title, dealer licensing, and sales tax law and policy changes that have occurred in the last two years, including the new personal information requirements. If you are new to vehicle titling, it is recommended that you attend a title basics workshop before going to a title update workshop.
Donuts and coffee will be served, and as usual, there is no charge for these workshops. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up soon to reserve a seat.
Please respond at least one week in advance of the workshop you would like to attend. Return your completed registration form to: Tracey Richards, Idaho Transportation Dept., P.O. Box 7129, Boise, ID 83707-1129.
